Pepper's Ghost

We seem to be cursed when it comes to getting good pictures of the Pepper's Ghost illusion. We've been doing this effect for 3 or 4 years, and have yet to get a decent picture. The picture above is of our FCG that we used for the actual ghost in our 2004 haunt, but not as it appears in the illusion. I'll try to give an explanation I did grab some screen shots from our 2003 haunt video of the effect here. of the effect, and maybe I'll be able to get a better picture in the future. These two sites are very useful in figuring it out: David Wall's Pepper's Ghost Hedstorm.net You also can see this in the ballroom dancing scene in Disney's Haunted Mansion. Basically the viewer will be looking at a scene, and then see a transparent ghost appear. This is acheived by putting a mirror in front of the scene at a 45 degree angle. The viewer cannot see the mirror. The ghost is actually located off to the side, where the viewer can't see him, and the ghost one sees in the scene is just the reflection. When it's in a dark room, it can actually work VERY well. In past years we used plastic film you use for insulating your windows, stretched across a wooden frame. A blow dryer helped to make the plastic tight enough, that you couldn't tell it was there.

With a flash you can see the glass very easily, and it gives away the effect. But in the dark, it works much better. We're also going to get a much larger mirror in 2005 to make it easier to hide.

As I mentioned above, we used our FCG for our ghost in 2004. In the past we used one of us, so we could interact with the kids etc.
