One of my favorite halloween stories has always been the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the headless horseman. For our 2005 haunt we tried to make this legend become a reality!! We featured a handful of animatronics, a headless dummy that threw a flaming pumpkin at you, and the highlight for most people, the REAL headless horseman himself! View the haunt at night here.

Nothing gives you the halloween spirit like jack-o-lanterns. So we covered the wall near the entrance to our haunt with them.

Also at the entrance we had a skeleton and a pumpkin singing Braum Bones' song about the headless horseman. The pumpkin was made from a singing christmas tree, stripped down and put in a pumpkin. We had a lot of problems getting the thing to work, but hopefully we'll of improved on it a lot by next year.

After walking through the front gate, the path takes them above an animatronic old grave digger telling stories about the headless horseman to little skeleton children.

Who says you can't have fun when you're dead?? Our "children of the night" and a floating phantom from hallowbean's yard. The motorized see saw is also from her yard.

This witch gives advice on how to find the headless horseman.

We brought the scarecrow from hallowbean's yard to put in the haunt. It looked great with a big red spot light on it. We also had a small animatronic owl near the bottom of it.

Right before the trick or treaters enter the hollow (aka the garage), we have this victim of the headless horseman holding his head, while narrating about the hollow.

Walking into the hollow you see the headless horseman holding a flaming pumpkin. As you draw near the pumpkin flies out of his hand towards you! It's not on the video, but we also had a loud laugh from the horseman just before he throws the pumpkin. Sorry we don't have better pictures and video it! Take my word that it looked awesome!

Try as we might we couldn't seem to get a good picture or video of this. But try to imagine it. We had what looked to be a floating crystal ball. And using a pepper's ghost illusion, we had a head talking inside the crystal ball. This is where the Trick or treaters would get their candy.

Then the highlight of the haunt was the real headless horseman, in the flesh! Er...does he have flesh...? All the kids loved the horseman. Lots of the kids got their picture taken with him and asked all sorts of questions. Sometimes kids would come out of the haunt and see it and it would take a few seconds to register that the real horseman was there.
