Anubis

I wanted to have a talking Anubis for our Mummy/Egyptian haunt for 2006. I was going to use a singing Christmas tree modified into an Anubis head, but then I found one of those talking deer heads for $30 and figured that'd make a good Anubis. The head is mounted on a PVC frame, and then a "duct tape dummy" body was built around the frame. Relatively quick, easy and cheap way to make a 6+ foot tall, talking Anubis. It made a great addition to our 2006 haunt. Although the aux input broke the day before halloween, so I had to just turn the volume down and turn on continuous movement and have a CD player playing the audio behind him. It didn't synch well, but better than nothing, when we didn't have time to fix the problem.

After spray painting the head black, I built this frame to mount the head on. If you have questions about the frame, you can contact me (jeff_baird(AT)my-mania.com).

The body, as I said above, was a duct tape dummy of myself. I then attached it to the PVC frame, and stuffed it with newspaper. At this stage, we also drilled a hole in the back of its head, being careful not to accidentally drill through the motor for the deer's ears, big enough to fit a red C7 Christmas light that will shine out of his eyes and mouth.

This shows the duct tape dummy, where it attachs to the frame. Not the most seamless, but it works. Especially since trick or treaters will only see this prop from the front.

We tried several different things for the hat, and finally settled on this one we bought at a party store. In this pic we hadn't glued the hat to his head yet.

We threw together a quick, but cool looking staff with a rubber snake and PVC.

We still haven't completed the arms yet, but we added some clothes for Anubis.

Prop in Progress!! More soon...
