Spur Canyon, Wyoming

After finding John Blue Canyon, I figured there must be some bigger and better canyons in the area. I stumbled upon this one while checking sattellite pictures. The topo maps showed no name for the canyon, but we've started calling it Spur Canyon. All in all it's a very unique and fun canyon in a place you might not think to look. This first page of pictures covers the first part of the canyon, that included fording a river, and two beautiful rappels and deep narrows.

Scary looking group of canyoneers! Normally this is a huge lake, but because of the drought, there's only a river in our way of getting to the canyon. This raft helped to keep our gear dry.

Heading out into the river.

Second rap into the canyon is down this dryfall, about 30-40 feet.

Even though the brush is sometimes a pain to walk through, it sure makes for a pretty canyon.

Our third rappel was about 50 feet into a beautiful grotto. Turns out this is where a barn owl lives.

Bean rappelling into the grotto.

Becky on the same rap.

Neil's turn on the same rappel.

Enjoying the cool grotto.

Becky in some narrows after the grotto. This is probably the deepest section of the canyon.

Beanie and Dave in the same spot.

On to part two of Spur Canyon....
