This is a trip we took in 1997, before
I knew canyoneering was a sport. We had known about Calf Creek falls,
and wanted to visit, but didn't want to take the conventional way. We
decided instead to try to rap in from the rim. We spent a lot of time
walking along the rim, until we found a low point just to the right
of the falls. It looked like our rope might reach, but turned out it
didn't. We had a 200 foot rope and it looked to be about 50 feet short.
So we had to rig up a second rope to increase our reach the rest the
way. So with the rope problem worked out, it was a great rappel, with
about 200 feet of the rappel completely free hanging. It was fun enough
of a trip, we returned the next year with a 300 foot rope to try it
again.
